Paid $ 520 @ Rs 43.70 (actually paid 500 in dollars and $20 worth in Rupees as they cannot accept more than $500 at a time) to clear the bill that included the next 5 days taxi service.
10.00 am - Left Arya Niwas for Ranthambore.
12.45 pm - Reached Kakor and took a few pictures of the fort. Nothing much to write home about. I went inside the Khadi Bhandhar, our taxi was parked outside the store, they had only sheets (khadi, cotton, mota kapda) and towels which were very thin and soft. The sheets were priced at around Rs 150 and the towels around Rs 57. I asked the owner how old was the fort, he replied, "Bahut purana" - very old!
12.55 pm - Left Kakor
1.20 pm - Reached Uniara. The place did not look very appealing, so I did not want to go. Pavan went alone to the Fort as I also wanted to have tea. So, Saravan brought me some tea and 1/2 kgs of Amroods - guavas. Uniara is a shanty little village/town - very similar to any other small town or village. Uniara is in Tonk district, and Tonk city is about 40 kms from here.
It is very hot here and very humid. People, as usual, are quite inquisitive towards a Tourist Taxi parked with a woman passenger alone in the back seat. They smile and leave you alone. There is a open tailoring shop on the upper floor, with no front wall or door - natural light and air cooled. Would this ever be allowed in the US? Code violations would kill this small businessman.
Looks like Pavan is taking longer than needed. And all the kids are around both the back windows. They were wondering if I am "English" I tried Pavan's lingo, Nahin bhai, Meerut ke hain......they left muttering, English nahin hai!
3.00 pm - Reached Ranthambore - Ankur Resort. Settled in for the night for an early morning outing next day to the Tiger Reserve.
